Garden Hills Nursery Terms of Sale

*The following terms apply to all internet and phone sales

When you order from Garden Hills Nursery, we guarantee that you will receive the healthiest trees, plants or bulbs, packed with care and ready to plant. We honor our Product Assurance for 6 months from date of delivery. We know how important your gardening needs are, so we do our best to provide you with the most up to date information regarding your USDA Planting Zones and how to care for your plants. We encourage you to use this information as a guide when ordering nursery goods from our company. We do not recommend or encourage ordering varieties that are clearly incompatible with your climate. These items will not be covered in your warranty due to incompatibility. In addition, we cannot be held responsible for losses that result from any extreme climatic event. As with all living plants, containerized or bare-root, loss is a possibility. With so many factors out of our control, It is virtually impossible to achieve a 100% survival rate.

Please follow our detailed planting instructions to ensure success.

Incorrect items, shortages, unhealthy/damaged items must be reported within 3 days of receipt. Garden Hills Nursery will replace and reship the items at no cost to the consumer.  


Our packages are shipped USPS. Average ship time is 3-5 business days.

Shipping Address Errors

Errors in the shipping address supplied by the customer is the responsibility of the customer. Additional shipping charges to reship returned packages are the responsibility of the customer.

Shipping Delays

We open shipping zones when the weather is appropriate for planting.  Your order may be delayed should the weather in your area or zone prohibit ideal planting conditions.  If you need to further delay your ship date, please contact us so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Our Guarantee

DO NOT plant an item that arrived unhealthy.  If an item arrives unhealthy or is damaged during shipping, you must notify us within 3 days of receipt. Failing to do so voids your warranty.  

Trees purchased during the Fall and Spring planting season are shipped dormant.  This means your tree is asleep and will not contain leaves.  Please allow 45 days from the date of planting before submitting a store credit request.

If you have properly cared for your plant and you experience a loss up to 6 months after planting, we will issue 100% store credit for the cost of the plant. Customers are responsible for shipping and handling charges. Store credit requests must be submitted online using our contact form. Please follow the directions closely as incomplete submissions will not be considered. All photos must include a scratch test on the trunk near the base of the tree and each item must be labeled or identified in the photo name.  This will allow us to determine if the tree has died or is in a dormant state.  Please allow 7 – 10 days for processing.  All requests must be reviewed for accuracy.  Additional emails and / or messages pertaining to your request may cause delays. 

*Please note if the same item fails twice we can no longer issue credit covering that item as it’s very likely your planting conditions / soil type isn’t compatible for this particular tree or plant.  

*A store credit does not guarantee the availability of a specific tree or plant as our inventory may change between growing seasons. 

*Fertilizing bare-root trees or planting in fertilized potting soil in the first year voids the plant guarantee. It is very important bare-root trees are established before applying any fertilizer.

*All Sales are Final on end of Season closeout pricing on bare-root trees and plants. This will be referenced on the checkout page when applicable.  

Credits are redeemable for up to one year of the original purchase date. The customer is responsible for applicable shipping cost.

Occasionally we may offer free gift(s) with purchase.  Free gifts are not covered by our plant warranty.

Damaged Package?

Our packages are shipped by USPS.  In the event your plant is damaged during shipping, please contact us immediately so we may assess the damage.  Slight cosmetic damage may not require replacement.

Plant Health

Plants are living things and we only sell the highest quality specimens. However, we’re unable to play the role of Mother Nature.  A quick scratch test will determine if a plant has died or simply waiting to branch out. Using your fingernail or a small coin, gently scratch the bark around the base of the plant.  If it is green or white then your plant is healthy and should thrive once the growing season has started. In the unfortunate event your plant isn’t healthy, store credit may be available to you within 6 months of delivery.  Many of our trees are shipped dormant.  Therefore it is common for these items to contain fewer or no leaves.  You must give your tree adequate time to exit dormancy after planting.


In most cases an order can be cancelled prior to shipping.  A 20% restocking fee is applied to all cancellations.  Cancellations are not available once shipping tracking numbers are issued.

For non-plant items such as garden aids and soil amendments, you may return unopened items in saleable condition within 15 days of receipt, and we’ll return the purchase price less shipping charges.

Cancellations must be processed using our web contact form.  All submissions are received and processed within 2 business days.
