The Silver Maple (Acer Saccharinum) is a shade tree. Grows to a height of 50–80′ and has a spread of 35–50′ at maturity. Is considered a fast grower with height growth of more than 24″ per year. Grows very quickly, providing shade earlier than most trees. The trademark 3–6″ leaves with 5 lobes separated by notably deep, narrow sinuses. Green on top and silvery underneath through spring and summer, they turn a pale yellow in the fall. The silver maple grows in a wide range of soil types but prefers deep, moist, acidic soil. It can withstand some flooding and has moderate drought tolerance.
