The Shumard Red Oak (Quercus Shumardi) is a strong and stately tree maturing to a height of 40-60′ with a spread of 40-60′. This oak is a great selection for yards as well as an adaptable species, grown in urban areas where air pollution, poor drainage, compacted soil, and/or drought are common, making it a fine choice for street trees as well. The Shumard oak grows in acidic, alkaline, loamy and well-drained soils. Makes a beautiful statement in fall with it’s fiery orange and red leaves. The Shumard produces small acorns favored by wildlife.
