Description

The Purple Carpe Myrtle (Largerstromemia Indica) is a stunning shrub is renowned for its showy flowers, beautiful bark, fast growth and tolerance of soil conditions. The common crape myrtle grows to a height of 15–25′ and has a spread of 6–15′ at maturity. This shrub is considered a fast grower, with height growth of more than 24″ per year.  Plant 8-10 feet apart. Can be grown in various types of soils from slightly alkaline to acidic. Prefers moist, well-drained sites, however, this shrub has some drought tolerance meaning it thrives best in hot, sunny climates. Can also be grown as a shrub or small tree. Produces wide, showy panicles in various shades of color, with flowers that are similar to crepe paper. Blooms late spring into fall. Pinching old growth produces more panicles extending the blooming period. Tolerates limited soil space. Foliage is dark green, changing to shades of yellow, orange and red in the fall
