It is considered a medium to fast rate grower, with growth increases of anywhere from 13″ to more than 24″ each year. Grows in acidic, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained and clay soil and has some drought tolerance. Is the fastest growing of the spruces and easily transplanted. Is great for windbreaks. Has dark green needles that are roughly ½–1″ in length and feel square when rolled between your fingers.
