The Emerald Green Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis ‘Emerald’) is an attractive evergreen for all seasons. Unlike other arborvitaes, this cultivar keeps its lustrous color even in the cold winter months. This tree grows to a height of 10-15′ with a spread of 3-4′ at maturity. A great choice for specimen or accent planting, hedges, and privacy screens. It features tiny, scale-like, lustrous foliage that displays as a flattened, fan-like, vertical spray. Produces a pleasing aroma when leaves are squeezed. Tolerates heat and drought once established and is cold-hardy to -40°F. Grows well in acidic, loamy, rich, sandy, silty loam and well-drained soils. Plant Emerald Green Arborvitae 2-3 feet apart if you are using it for privacy. For quicker privacy plant them about 2 feet apart. Full sun and partial shade are best for this tree, meaning it prefers a minimum of four hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day.
