  • Clear

Althea (Hibiscus syriacus), also known as Rose of Sharon, is a hardy hibiscus shrub. Plant shrubs 6′ apart in well drained full sun locations. Althea grows up to 12′ tall with a 6 – 10′ spread. The shrub is covered in blooms from summer to fall. Can be planted in a wide range of soil types and pH levels, although acidic soil is better than alkaline. Prune the althea in late winter or early spring to promote new growth and maintain a larger flower size. Make cuts above a bud on the branch. This shrub is good for privacy barrier.

Full sun to partial shade is recommended.
